On Wednesday, former Zimbabwean Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, Obert Gutu, took to Twitter to throw shade at Mmusi Maimane.

In the post, Gutu dubbed the DA leader a "puppet" who has no place in the "New Africa".

He captioned the post:

"Mmusi Maimane is a puppet, a perfect, unadulterated example of an Uncle Tom. He should shut up regarding his ill-informed comments on Zimbabwe. Maimane, the puppet, should concentrate on doing what he knows best..ie..being a puppet. Puppets have got no space in the New Africa."

South Africans, and Africans in general, stood up for the DA leader and they slammed Gutu in the comment section.

Twitter user, @tinasheruvinga, wrote: "Puppet because he points out human rights violations in Zimbabwe?"
Another tweep, @PrinceRRupondo, added: "Mmusi is the leader of a much better and bigger organisation than yours..."

Briefly.co.za previously reported Maimane took to social media to call on South Africa to intervene in Zimbabwe.

Maimane cited the fact that millions of Zimbabweans are starving and alluded to the increase in violence.
