US rap queen, Nicki Minaj, shocked fans by announcing her retirement from music on social media, saying she wanted to start a family.
The rapper took to Twitter on Thursday night, saying that she decided to retire to focus on starting a family with her partner, Kenneth Petty.
Nicki also encouraged her followers to “keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, X in the box – cuz ain’t nobody checkin me”, which is a reference to her verse on Alicia Key’s Girl on Fire remix.
According to New York Times, Nicki hinted in June that she planned on marrying her boyfriend and in August had changed her Twitter name to Mrs Petty, but kept mum on whether a wedding had taken place.
Nicki made her debut in the music industry 10 years ago with her first album, Pink Friday and became popular for her outspoken comments, colourful wigs, feuds with other singers and multi-alter egos.
She has consistently carried the rap game on her back, debuting on the Billboard charts in 2009 for I Get Crazy ft Lil Wayne, in 2010 she broke the record for having seven Hot 100 singles in the charts.
The same year, Nicki broke more milestones with her music, including surpassing Aretha Franklin’s record for having 76 songs on the storied list.
TshisaLive reported that Nicki made history earlier this year, as the first female rapper to sell 100 million records.
But Nicki’s fans did not take her recent announcement too well. They were saddened by her retirement from music. Take a look at some of the reactions:
Meanwhile, five months ago, Briefly.co.za reported that Cassper Nyovest enjoys sharing his opinions and thoughts with his followers, and sometimes it gets him into hot water with those same followers. This time, the rapper got dragged for saying Nicki Minaj was the 'greatest of all time'.
Rapper Cassper Nyovest is often catching the attention of fans on social media, and not always for positive reasons. Cassper tweeted that Nicki Minaj was the greatest female rapper of all time, and certainly attracted the attention of many.
TimesLIVE reported that it looks like the musician is trying to see how far tweeps will go to argue with him. Judging by his tweet, Cassper is a huge fan of the American rapper and perhaps has a bit of a crush on her.
