Graduate says it's never too late to pursue dreams and overcome struggles

A graduate from DUT has said that it's never too late to chase one's dreams. Through a difficult road, he has successfully graduated as a Doctor of Dental Technology.

The elate Stanley Onwubu said that the process was a rough ride. He stressed that he had a good support system that helped him achieve much of what he has. He appreciates having been given second chances after making mistakes.

The topic of his dissertation was focused on Dentine hypersensitivity which is a notable common problem in the field of dentistry and presents a challenge for oral health workers to effectively manage.

He explained that the condition was the demineralisation of the enamel and the subsequent exposure of the dentine tubules to the oral environment. This can be caused by high erosive drink consumption.

In his doctoral study, and with the support of his supervisors and other co-authors, he completed 15 papers, 13 of which have been published as well as three book chapters.

The graduate aims to develop a paste that will protect teeth and market it. He believes that his research can go beyond papers.

His advice to others is that it is never too late to pursue one’s dream. He encourages people to ignore the naysayers.
