A manager for one of Sam Chabalala's depots has been murdered in what has been dubbed a 'hit-style' attack.
The Citizen reports that Nkosinathi Ngcongo died after being shot in the head and chest as he was about to leave the Sam Holdings depot in Bethal, Mpumalanga.
Police have confirmed the incident, saying that a suspect has already been arrested for the murder and is expected to appear in court soon.
The flamboyant businessman had been arrested on suspicions that he had illegally acquired his South African identity, with Chabalala facing charges of fraud, bribery and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The Sowetan reports that a source in the Hawks had confirmed meeting Ngcongo, with the deceased providing a sworn affidavit on his employer's activities:
"He made an affidavit under oath. We are investigating a hit. He was very close to the businessman."
Briefly.co.za reported that Chabalala was known as a millionaire with an extensive collection of luxury vehicles, making his fortune in the trucking industry after what he claims was a difficult childhood.
