- South Africans were outraged to learn how much government spends on prison inmates

- DA leader Mmusi Maimane urged parliament to get their priorities straight and social media users were in agreement
The DA shared a surprising revelation that floored South Africans recently.
Addressing parliament on Wednesday, DA leader Mmusi Maimane urged government to get its priorities straight.
Maimane revealed that it currently costs the state R350 per day to keep an inmate in prison compared to the R70 that is allocated towards women in shelters.
The DA shared the tweet via Twitter and Briefly.co.za noted the angry reaction from alarmed South Africans.
It seems the general public was not aware of the huge discrepancy and many demanded that government curb the expenditure on criminals.
#mlsc (@mlsc19) commented, "I don't see why we are feeding criminals honestly."
Justin Mac Carthy (@justinmaccar) asked, "I wonder if the @ANCParliament also hands out free KFC at the woman's shelters?? They seem to really want the criminals and rapists in prison on their side."
Rae (@zuludog58) said, "And free education drugs cell phone and and and."
Bertie Koch (@Bertie_Koch) added, "R350 per day for inmates! Thats roufhly R10k per month. How much are pensioners paid?"
T(song)a (@AskJavu) responded, "I think Mr Maine is not playing in that parliament this time."
