- Zinhle Maditla, accused of murdering her four children, will be serving multiple life sentences for her crimes
- The nation watched on in horror as they learnt of how the children, as young as 11 months, had been poisoned by the woman who gave birth to them
- Maditla had reportedly committed the offence after learning of her boyfriend's infidelity
Zinhle Maditla has been handed four life sentences for the deaths of her children Minenhle, Blessing, Shaniqua and Ethen.
IOL reports that Judge Sheila Mphahlele had found no substantial circumstances to justify a reduced sentence for the Mpumalanga mother.
Maditla had claimed that her conscience had been battling to come to terms with what she had done, but Mphahlele noted that she failed to seek help for her offspring:
“Despite this realisation, she never asked for assistance, the least when the children started complaining of headaches. She claims that she was in the meantime tormented in her conscience, but she failed to seek help or report the matter.”
Aged between 11 months and 8 years old, the children had suffered before eventually dying after being fed poison by Maditla.
The mother had reportedly given the father of the children the keys to the room where the bodies had later been discovered, saying that she would be going away and had locked them inside.
