Our readers react: Why are kids so disrespectful and violent?

The recent ruling by the constitutional court caused a stir within Mzansi last week. With this in mind, Briefly.co.za shared an online survey to determine why children are deemed more disrespectful and violent than ever before.

Briefly.co.za reported that many South Africans were left fuming after the recent ruling by the constitutional court.

The ruling forbids parents from spanking their children at home and many parents felt that government is interfering with their parental duties.

With this in mind, Briefly.co.za conducted a survey via Facebook to establish why children are deemed to be more violent and disrespectful than in days gone by.

The results made for interesting reading as the post went viral and attracted hundreds of responses.

Based on the feedback, there were some common trends which stuck out - religion being phased out of schools, parents not taking enough responsibility and questionable government legislation.

William Ndubuaku commented, "Because of high rate of absent fathers in South Africa,the answer is very simple."
Pamela April added, "Good Question because the Bible and the Rod was removed from school .see the results kids think they can kill fellow learners and teachers they don't like all the governments fault."
Marlene Janse van Rensburg said, "Because the Bible classes is being taken out of Schools. No fear of God, no respect."
Lissa Ngenda Mwenda responded, "Parents leave parenting to teachers who are overwhelmed, nannies who are underappreciated or underpaid and assume their only role is to bring home the bread. Then you have courts telling you that you cant spank your children so it's basically mayhem. We are practically raising human wild animals."
Thabo Magalefa added, "We've adopted western ways... forgetting that it took them years to get it right. Now our 25years of democracy just wants to copy and paste without due diligence."
