Social media was enraged by a video exposing an Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department officer's allegedly drunken behaviour.

The video had gone viral as citizens condemned the officer's actions, calling the government to deal with the culprit immediately.

Originally shared by Yusuf Abramjee, the video drew the ire of Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba, who commented:

“South Africa, we are surely in deep trouble. Let’s all look at ourselves in the mirror and ask what happened."

Abramjee had noted that the officer had allegedly been intoxicated and had “nearly crashed into a biker in Benoni and threatened to shoot the man while he was recording him”.

Briefly.co.za gathered that the city's Mayor Mzwandile Masina vowed to ensure the officer was taken on for his conduct.

While the common conclusion had been that the EMPD officer had been drunk, other versions of the story claim that he had been struggling with poor health, with once person alleging that he had witnessed the officer walking out of a Dis-Chem.
