All the talk about the Department of Basic Education working on introducing a general education certificate that will allow South African students to leave school as early as Grade 9 got South Africans worked up.

Taking to social media - as Mzansi so often does when they want to discuss something - the hashtag #MinaInGrade9 was born.

Peeps remembered what they were doing in Grade 9 and it makes one wonder if kids at that age should really be allowed to leave school. According to Minister Angie Motshekga, this will open up other opportunities for students.

Meanwhile, glamorous celeb Khanyi Mbau has looked on the brighter side of things. She shared what she was doing in Grade 9 - drawing pictures of fancy cars. Yellow fancy cars.
