- Pravin Gordhan has lost his bid to have a report on the SARS rogue unit kept from the public eye
- The Economic Freedom Fighters have welcomed the move made by the Equality Court on Monday
- This comes as the two parties gear up for the legal battle over the Public Protector's findings in the debacle
Monday saw the Equality Court dismissing Pravin Gordhan's application to have a report on the SARS rogue unit kept from public records.
In a statement released after the proceedings, the Red Berets welcomed the move, saying that the Chapter 9 institution had found the unit had been unlawful.
Briefly.co.za reported that the Public Protector had made similar findings in her report, implicating the Public Enterprises Minister.
Busisiwe Mkhwebane's remedial actions against Gordhan had been stalled when courts had given President Cyril Ramaphosa (who had been responsible for implementing them) and the minister the opportunity to appeal her findings.
The EFF had come out in strong opposition of Gordhan in the matter, supporting Mkhwebane in her legal battle against the two political behemoths.
In response to the court's decision, EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi commented that:
"EFF has just won against Pravin Gordhan at the Equality Court in his challenge to have the Rogue Unit Report of the Inspector General removed from the case; IGI report will be included. Judge Southerland has dismissed Gordhan’s Application."
