Abductors on the Run After Police Rescue Man Following Kidnapping

A hostage drama unfolded in Kimberley last week when a man was abducted by four men.

The suspects involved in the kidnapping of a man in Christiana on Thursday are still on the run after police manage to rescue the man from his captors.

Philani Nkwalase, the Northern Cape police spokesperson, said four suspects kidnapped the man, then involuntary made him withdraw money from his accounts, as well as made him draw more cash from an investment account.

The suspects then tried to make the man withdraw a large some of cash, but Kimberley’s Nedbank denied the request, Nkwalase said.

When police were informed of the kidnapping and the forceful withdrawal of his funds, the quickly contacted the bank to block his cards in an effort to stop further withdrawals.

A task team, which included members from the Hawks and provincial detectives, was set up, who managed to rescue the man at a Nedbank in New Park at 11.30am.

However, the suspects fled. Police have not been able to find them since, but the Hawks are investigating charges of extortion, kidnapping and robbery.
