Prince Harry released an emotional statement after he and his wife took legal action against the British press.

The Duke of Sussex compared the treatment his wife received to that of his late mother, Princess Diana.

Law firm Schillings filed a claim against the Mail at the High Court on behalf of the Duchess. According to BBC, the lawsuit follows the alleged misuse of private information, infringement of copyright and breach of the Data Protection Act 2018.

The legal action followed the Mail publishing a letter the Duchess penned to her estranged father, Thomas Markle, after she and Prince Harry tied the knot last year.

In a lengthy statement on their official website, Harry said he feared that history would repeat itself with his wife.

"My wife has become one of the latest victims of a British tabloid press that wages campaigns against individuals with no thought to the consequences – a ruthless campaign that has escalated over the past year, throughout her pregnancy and while raising our newborn son."

Social media users reacted to Prince Harry's statement online and they were left divided.

Twitter user, @Salem_Blackcat2, commented: "There is 0 comparison between Meghan and Princess Diana. He's delusional. They are upset because the Royal Family doesn't approve of her not wanting to follow protocol. He's grasping at straws. Desperate to keep her in the limelight Duchess Catherine is one Meghan could try to emulate."
Another tweep, @ChicDelights8, added: "Harry and Meghan are using the Diana card is disgusting. History is repeating itself for Harry because of his own actions. Harry has to move on and be a man to stand up for his own choices, actions and life. Don’t blame it all on the media."
Patricia Arquette, who goes by the Twitter handle @PattyArquette, wrote: "She has been harassed nonstop. There is a very real racist aspect to her being targeted. Good for him. He loves her. He is an officer and a gentleman. May they have a beautiful life together."

Meanwhile, reported earlier that Prince Harry and Meghan visited the YES organisation on the final day of their royal tour in Africa.

The royal couple learned about the high unemployment rate in South Africa.
