A young lady turned into an internet sensation after sharing the story behind her sister's engagement.

Therese merkel (@theresemerkel) took to Twitter and shared comical photos and explained that she disguised herself as a bush to blend in and capture the moment.

Therese adds that she and her sister are a year apart and questions why their lives are so different - with her sister getting engaged and her being a shrub.

Briefly.co.za noted that her comical take on the incident struck a chord with tweeps as the post started a massive trend.

The tweet almost unbelievably attracted more than 180 000 likes.

What added to the humour was that Therese included various celebrities and brands in a bizarre attempt to get free goodies.
