While Prince Kaybee was celebrating his win at the glitzy South African Dance Music Awards which honours DJs and musos for their work, a misunderstood “tweet” caught the eye of social media tolls.
Mzansi musos, Prince Kaybee and Msaki, bagged the House Record of the Year award for ‘Fetch Your Life’.
While celebrating his victor, Prince Kayvee and his team landed themselves in hot water for failing to acknowledge Msaki, the vocalist who actually penned the hit song.
During the acceptance speech, Prince Kaybee’s booking manager did not mention Msaki, and when the DJ shared the video of the speech on social media (which he later deleted) he also did not mention Msaki or correct the initial mishap.
This sent fans into a complete rage, with many people calling Prince Kaybee out and probing Msaki for a response. A fan suggested that she should give the DJ the benefit of the doubt but she had a very sarcastically response. See her response below:
Then Prince Kaybee attempted to rectify the mishap and highlighted that the “We” on his deleted post indicated that Msaki was included and acknowledged for her contribution.
He wrote: “Hi guys I would like to apologise on behalf of my booking manager for not mentioning @msaki¬_ZA yesterday at the awards when collecting the award on OUR behalf, didn’t know what she was gonna say, I posted that “We” (Msaki and I) have won an award. We didn’t not mean any harm.”
But his explanation didn not seem to matter to Msaki. Her reply was a clear indication.
“It’s all good Kabelo. I don’t mind that your booking manager didn’t mention me, that’s okay. You could’ve done that your post about the award but it didn’t seem like a priority. You suggest I locate my contribution in the “we”. Even now, you could do better. Understand?”
Prince Kaybee ended the debacle saying he always gave credit to artists he worked with and also took a jab at Ntsiki Mazwai, who had dragged him about the issues on Twitter too.
He also said he would give the award to Msaki if she was willing to accept it.
