- Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Hendrick 'Pule' Ekstein is making waves in Europe after his move to Sabah FC in Azerbaijan
- Ekstein started the season well, but endured a tricky patch and was dropped out of the team
- Following the departure of the former coach, Ekstein has been reinstated and was named in the league team of the week
Former Kaizer Chiefs player Hendrick 'Pule' Ekstein left Naturena earlier this year and many supporters were sad to see him go.
It then took many by surprise when he achieved his dream move to Europe when Sabah FC signed him - albeit in the Azerbaijan league.
The diminutive playmaker started the season well with some key contributions, but seemingly faded away, as he was slowly dropped out of the line-up.
However, Ekstein's fortunes changed after the former coach Elshad Ahmadov was sacked following a series of poor results.
New coach Rövshan Babayev has recalled Ekstein and was rewarded with a stunning display against Sabail as Sabah beat them 3-0.
KickOff.com reported that the 28-year-old was hailed as the 'heartbeat' of the team by their local media.
As a result of his dominant display, Briefly.co.za learnt that Ekstein was named in the league team of the week.
The amazing achievement will please Ekstein, but the midfielder will need to stay focused on Sunday as Sabah take on reigning champions Qarabag.
