- Helen Zille recently announced that she would be contesting one of the top jobs in the DA
- Whatever feelings Mmusi Maimane might have on this surprising development, he sure is keeping them to himself
- As dramatic as things have been for the party this week it definitely doesn't look like peace is on the horizon
Mmusi Maimane has had a tough week so when it came to addressing the Helen Zille situation he chose his words carefully.
Briefly.co.za reported that the former Democratic Alliance leader has chosen to emerge from the two seconds she spent in retirement.
Zille threw her hat in the ring for one of the top jobs in the party, but Mmusi seems reluctant to share his opinion:
"I have a vision for the DA, a party for One South Africa for All, focused on jobs and justice. I am not commenting on individual candidates for the position of Federal Council Chairperson. The delegates will decide, let's focus on the future."
But after being subjected to a probe and speculation over his position at the helm of the party, who can really blame him?
Maimane had his neck on the line with an investigation launched into his home and a Fortuner that was rented for him by the tainted Steinhoff company.
The politician was cleared of any wrongdoing by the internal investigation but with Zille claiming that top DA members had asked her to contest for the position of chair, Maimane appears to be avoiding stepping on any toes.
