Producers put #Uyajola on hold for 'reasons unrelated to complaints'

- Uyajola has been making waves since it first aired - not everyone appreciates the content of the show

- Lately, more and more people have complained about the show

- Now, production has been iced, though not for reasons related to the many complaints

Since it first started airing on South African screens, Uyajola has been surrounded by controversy.

While many viewers love the show for its drama and 'realness', others have slammed it for portraying black people in a negative light.

One episode in particular that showed a man getting beaten up by a woman had viewers deeply upset and calling for Uyajola to be taken off the air.

Now, production has come to a screeching halt until further notice.

However, Briefly.co.za gathered from ZAlebs that Lindiwe Mbonambi, Moja Love's spokesperson, said the complaints had nothing to do with the decision to put the show on halt.

"The viewers' complaints to the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa (BCCSA) had nothing to do with the canning of the show. The production company has decided to take a break from producing Uyajola9/9."

The BCCSA was forced to forward the complaints it received from the public to MultiChoice, which airs the show.

For now, it's uncertain if the show will only be halted temporarily or if a decision will be made to axe it completely, taking it off the air for good.
