Briefly.co.za reported on Tuesday that the Springboks secured a spot in the quarter-finals after an impressive 66-7 win over Canada.

There are only two quarter-final spots open - which are competed for by Japan, Scotland and Ireland.

Two of the key games for the final spots in the top eight were cancelled on Thursday as Japan braces for Super Typhoon Hagibis.

The typhoon is believed to be the biggest storm to have hit the country this year.

"We've taken the very difficult decision to cancel certain matches in the affected areas," tournament director Alan Gilpin said.
"While it's regrettable, we've made, we believe, the right decision with everyone's safety as the priority," he added.
