The new owner of ANN7 and The New Age newspaper is less than happy at being labelled a Gupta puppet and wants to know if he’s being labelled as such because he is black.
Mzwanele Manyi released documents to prove that he is the only shareholder of Lodidox. He said he did this in the interests of transparency and to prove that he was now the sole owner of news broadcaster ANN7 and The New Age newspapers.
Manyi lashed out at those who called him a puppet of the Guptas without any evidence to back up the claims. He said that it was just another example of the institutionalised racism which is still rife in the country and which successful black people had to deal with.
Manyi told EWN.co.za that black people in the country are not trusted and that’s why he has been called a puppet.
Manyi said that he intended to grow both businesses and wanted to make them an important part of the media landscape in the country. He said thanks to the deal almost 500 jobs had been saved which is something none of the media houses published.
The former government spokesperson bought the two media businesses from Oakbay Investments for a combined R450 million, experts commented that the price seemed to have been inflated.
Is this deal really above board or are there skeletons waiting to come out?
