Phelo Bala wasn't about to let other people's perceptions prevent him from living his best life - that's why he came out and admitted that he is gay.

The muso, who got engaged to his soulmate, Moshe Ndiki, about a month ago, recently shared that he faced many trails after he revealed his dating preference.

As reported on by TimesLIVE, Phelo is an outspoken member of the LGBTIQ+ community but he has had it difficult at times.

Phelo took to Instagram to open up about how he lost business and received backlash for being gay.

"Coming out was never easy. I've had to deal with people viewing me differently, the backlash, homophobia, losing business because I now not fit the 'criteria'."

However, pretending to be someone he isn't was not an option.

"Living a lie was not what I wanted for my life, especially if I wanted to grow mentally and emotionally. Life is hard enough as it for me to imprison myself and hide who I really am."

But, as gathered, Phelo is happy now and at peace with himself.

"The upside is that I now have peace. Peace with myself and I focus my energy on those that truly love me because there will always be someone that loves you for you."
