Lionel Messi has become one of the most admired and decorated football players in the world. He made his Barcelona debut on 16 October, 2004, when he came in as a substitute against Espanyol.
The 17-year-old was brought on in place of Deco with only eight minutes left to play and the young Argentine showed flashes of brilliance wearing the number 30 jersey.
The rest of the charismatic attacker's career is history as he is now Barcelona's top-scorer and the highest scorer in La Liga history.
After that beautiful night on which Messi made his debut for La Blaugrana, he revealed how nervous he had been but enjoyed every moment.
"It is a very important date with regard to my career. The truth is that it was a very happy day. I was happy, but also very nervous.
"When I got on, I just enjoyed the moment. I remember I had a really good chance against the goalkeeper, but I didn't get hold of it. Rijkaard came up to me after the game and said that I missed the chance," Messi told Barca TV.
Messi made eight senior appearances for Barcelona in the 2004/05 season and went on to nail a starting place in the subsequent campaign.
He is now captain of the club with 604 goals in 692 appearances - winning 34 trophies, including ten La Liga titles and four Champions League winners medals.
The 32-year-old has won five Ballon d'Or awards in over a decade of competing with his rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, but he is regarded as the greatest of all time.
