Woman pens heartfelt tribute to second mother who raised her

A woman has taken to social media to pen a touching letter to a lady she regards as her second mother. Jillian Harcourts praised the nanny, who raised her for 41 years. The beautiful post paid tribute to the nanny's positive contribution in her life.

Jillian Terblanche Harcourts took to the "ImStaying" group on Facebook to praise Elizabeth. Jillian was raised by Elizabeth from 6 months old because her parents worked full-time. The woman she lovingly refers to as Liz was with her through all major milestones in her life.

"It was Liz that shared her sage advice with me about any friend or boyfriend troubles I was having and it was Liz that would regale me for hours with her wonderful African fables and wisdom"

She shared stories of her childhood and how Liz was present for every moment. The 41-year-old is still in contact with Liz, who is now almost 80 years of age.

"She has seen me through my schooling years, university years, marriage, the birth of my son, my divorce and the death of both my parents."

Although they don't live close to each other, they still phone one another every Sunday to catch up.

"I think so many of us have similar stories of being raised by our African mothers, the experience of which only enriched our lives that much more. And that’s why #imstaying."

Social media users were touched by the wonderful words shared about Liz and about the bond between the pair. Facebook user Vanessa Wyatt said:

"Your guardian angel."

Charleen Diaz Geldenhuys said:

"This is such a beautiful story. And so relating to all our homes where our parents worked. And the nanny took on the role as parent."
