Baleka Mbete had, to put it politely, a difficult time on Mehdi Hasan's talk show Head to Head.
Speaking to her Al Jazeera host during a discussion themed 'Has South Africa’s ruling party betrayed Mandela’s legacy?', Mbete managed to get tongues wagging.
Briefly.co.za gathered that three experts, Makhosi Khoza (a former ANC member who has joined the fight against corruption), Xolani Xala (an active ANC member) and Andrew Feinstein (the UK director of Corruption Watch) weighed in on the topic.
Mbete had apparently been expecting questions on the successes of the ruling party over its more than two decades in power.
Instead, Hasan had probed whether or not South Africa had done enough to hold former president Jacob Zuma accountable and to keep Nelson Mandela's vision of a united nation alive.
As a critical interview on an international platform, Mbete had done little to adjust to the intense nature of the questions asked.
