Somizi Mhlongo took to his Instagram account early on Wednesday morning to pay tribute to his former best friend, Lebo Mathosa, who died in a car crash 13 years ago.

The 29-year-old Kwaito and RnB singer was killed in a car crash east of Johannesburg in 2006. According to the Mail & Guardian, the driver lost control of the vehicle (a Toyota Prado) in which they were travelling on the N3 highway on the East Rand. The vehicle overturned between the Heidelberg Road off-ramp and Grey Avenue in Germiston. Mathosa died at the scene and the driver suffered minor injuries.

Somizi wrote:

"On this day 13 years ago I woke up to the news that my best friend was no more. The one and only Lebo Mathosa. Here are the 2 quotes from her lyrics that I've always lived by. 'Yes you can judge me second on your list coz I don't give a damn being first on your list' and 'I hold the secret of my beginnings'."

Somizi's Instagram post has gathered more than 12.4k likes and 147 comments thus far. Most of his followers shared Somizi's grief and commented that on the powerful words from Lebo.
