Radius Masukume has been nominated for an SA Man of the Year Award following his heroic actions earlier this month.

The awards were initiated in 2015 as a national campaign against gender-based violence and it honours men who are positive role models, News24 reported.

It seems fitting that Masukume was nominated for the award after he put his own life at risk to rescue a woman from her rapists.

The awards' chairperson, Bongani Ngomane, said Masukume's bravery deserves "special recognition" from both Capetonians and the rest of Mzansi.

The awards committee and Social Development Men's Forum believe Masukume's actions were the perfect example of the campaign's "Don't look away" and "Not in my name" messages.

The ceremony is set to take place on 27 November at Carnival City. Briefly.co.za reported last week that Masukume suffered several stab wounds after he stumbled upon two men sexually assaulting a woman in a field.

Without hesitation, Masukume rushed to her rescue and ended up facing off with the armed rapists.

His story has since gone viral on social media and Mzansi started a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds as a thank-you for Masukume's heroic act.
