A brawl broke out at a mall in Johannesburg recently. In the footage shared on social media, police appeared to be struggling to control the crowd as the enraged mob attacked them. The clip shows several people physically assaulting law enforcement members.

The video was shared by the Crimeairnetwork on Twitter and the Intelligence Bereau of SA on Facebook. It trended on both platforms. According to the Facebook post, the incident occurred at the Pan Africa Shopping Mall in Wynberg, Sandton.

Reports suggest that the law enforcement officers were attempting to move vendors from the street when the vendors fought back. Social media users were horrified by the chaos. Twitter user Les_Ndlovu said:

"The police must be given license to draw their guns and shoot the perpetrators in such situations. Maybe then citizens will start respecting the police."

"That's what happens when people don't train and just work for the sake of working, when real work related situations arise they don't know how to control the situation."

"I have worked with @JoburgMPD on many occasions, they are well trained, it is society that needs to be trained to respect law enforcement. We protect our criminals with our vote. Too many rights, the officers are helpless."
