A South African interracial couple has gone viral on social media after posting a video of their engagement. The clip starts off as normal until the doting boyfriend pops the question. The footage has been viewed almost 50 000 times.

Samuel Varrie and Tshepiso Mathole shared their engagement online for the world to see. It wasn't a complete surprise though because Samuel had insisted on doing it the right way. This means that Tshepiso's family was already aware of his intentions.

The process followed involved Tshepiso's uncles phoning her to make sure that she agreed to the relationship and marriage.

The couple met at university where they were both studying the same course, law.

Samuel is originally from the Free State and grew up in Tzaneen while Tshepi grew up in Skukuza in the Kruger National Park. The pair started dating after two years of friendship.

Samuel’s family have been very supportive of the couple. His parents are pastors and did not make a big deal of the interracial relationship.

Tshepi’s mom was a little hesitant to meet Samuel, because in African culture you only meet the parents if the relationship becomes serious.

Tshepi’s family is meeting in Soweto on the weekend to start the negotiations. They will discuss if they are happy with Samuel marrying Tshepi and then decide on a negotiation team. Samuel says he's learning about the customs with Tshepi's help.
