The life of a Grade 12 student was snuffed out by home invaders on the morning of 25 October.
The student, whose name remains private, was fatally shot in his home in Braamfischerville, according to SowetanLIVE.
The George Khosa Secondary pupil was trying to fight off the home invaders when things went bad and he lost his life to the gunshot.
Briefly.co.za gathered that Panyaza Lesufi, Gauteng Education and Youth Development MEC, expressed his sadness at the tragic incident.
"According to the information at our disposal, it is alleged that the learner was tragically shot dead in the early hours of this morning at his home in Braamfischerville, on what seemed to be a botched armed robbery.
"Apparently the deceased tried to fight back the intruders and was subsequently fatally shot at close range. He was certified dead on the scene."
He has also condemned the violent way in which the boy passed away.
"Furthermore, we strongly condemn senseless acts of violence which threaten the safety of our learners in and around our schooling environment, robbing them of their future."
The police are investigating the case and the Education Department dispatched officials from the Psycho-Social Unit to give counselling services to the school and the mourning family.
