- Actor Ben Affleck is a recovering substance abuser who has made his battle with alcoholism public
- Affleck appeared to relapse and be publicly drunk at an event in West Hollywood on Saturday
- The next day he was seen getting inside his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner's, house
Forty-seven-year-old Affleck had been attending the UNICEF Masquerade Ball in West Hollywood when he was seen stumbling and unsteady on his feet.
When confronted by media outside the home, Affleck said, "It happens. It was a slip. But I'm not going to let it derail me."
Affleck shares three children with Garner and it seems they are still on good terms despite their divorce in October last year.
Hours ahead of the ball, the actor addressed having been in recovery for over a year on social media.
“But let’s be serious for a moment and talk about something that is actually important,” he wrote on Twitter.
“I have been in recovery for over a year and part of that is helping out others. @themidnightmission is an incredible organisation that helps those in need with housing, training, development and recovery.
“I’m making a donation today because there are people battling addiction every day that don’t have the resources and need help,” he concluded.
Affleck has been in rehab multiple times and entered rehab again in August last year.
He revealed his fight to remain sober in a heart-wrenching statement on Instagram in October last year.
On 4 October he wrote, "This week I completed a 40-day stay at a treatment centre for alcohol addiction and remain in outpatient care.
“Battling any addiction is a lifelong and difficult struggle. Because of that, one is never really in or out of treatment. It is a full-time commitment. I am fighting for myself and my family.”
Briefly.co.za has reported that actress Garner has remained a great support system for Affleck and that they co-parent extremely well.
