The Frenchman officiated the Boks' semi-final match, which resulted in a win over Wales. Mzansi was none too pleased about the announcement though and made their reactions known on social media.
This is the first time Garcès will officiate a rugby final on the world stage and social media uses were not happy. Twitter user KhotsoMoloko said:
"My thoughts are that he is there stop us like Bryce Lawrence was instructed to do in 2011 SFs. World Rugby looks after their beloved ABs and England."
"They surely are doing their best to try and keep us from winning the trophy for a third time. GO BOKKE!"
"He had a good game the last time around though I would've preferred the Australian guy. It's a pity we can't have Nigel Owens."
"He is corrupt. He allowed New Zealand players to tackle defenders and so create openings for their offensive players. We should not allow him to be the referee."
"The IRB is trying really hard to not make us win this thing!"

Even international audiences found the appointment dubious. GuyHeveldt said:
"How does Jerome Garcès get such big game appointments? He doesn’t even know where to stand."
We'll have to cross our fingers and hope for the best. We're behind you all the way, boys.
