- Cape Town City have announced the exciting signing of Greek defender Giannis Potouridis
- The centre-back previously played for Greek giants, Olympiacos
- The signing follows a dismal run of 9 winless games as pressure mounts on coach Benni McCarthy
Cape Town City confirmed the signing of exciting Greek centre-back Giannis Potouridis on Monday.
The 27-year-old boasts an impressive CV as he previously played for Greek powerhouse Olympiacos, who regularly feature in the UEFA Champions League.
It is hoped that the left-footed defender will inspire the Citizens to greater heights amidst a bad slump in form.
Briefly.co.za understands that Potouridis is able to play at left-back as well and represented his nation at under-21 level.
City have endured a dismal run of nine winless matches on the trot as pressure mounts on coach Benni McCarthy.
McCarthy will point to the fact that the run included notable draws against the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United.
However, supporters were left frustrated following losses to AmaZulu and Maritzburg United recently.
McCarthy's chargers were relatively unlucky to go down to Kaizer Chiefs in the Telkom Knockout as the match went to penalties.
