- Kanye West said, in a radio interview this week, that black people in America were “brainwashed” into voting a certain way
- He also said that and most people who got involved in hip hop become materialistic
- Trevor Noah addressed the comments in an in-between-scenes 'Daily Show' segment
Rapper West has been on a media tour since releasing his gospel album Jesus Is King last week.
He sparked the debate when he stated that black Americans were brainwashed into voting for the Democrats because they had been promised welfare benefits.
West is a notorious Donald Trump supporter and has been criticised for wearing the 'Make America Great Again (MAGA)' hat.
He said, “We’re brainwashed out here, bro. Come on, man. This is a free man talking. Democrats had us voting Democrats with food stamps for years.
About hip hip culture, he said, “The culture has you so focused on f*cking somebody else’s b*tch and pulling up in a foreign car and rapping about things that can get you locked up and then saying you about prison reform ... C’mon, man. This a free man talking.”
Comedian and Daily Show talk show host Noah said West was a hypocrite, as he was one of those rappers that focused on material things not too long ago.
He said, “I was watching that, and I was like: Are you sh*tting me? Like, of all people. I’m not saying everything he’s saying is wrong, but you are going to say it? You, as Kanye West, are gonna talk sh*t about other rappers talking about buying ‘foreign'?”
About Kanye's political views, Noah said, “What is more likely? The fact that these people are brainwashed, or the fact that, in America, you have to vote for the system that gives you the best chance?"
He added, "You may not even like all of the Democrat positions, but you’re like, ‘Yeah I’m voting for my best shot."
South African born and raised Noah also slammed West for claiming slavery was a choice last year.
Noah said, “No Kanye, slavery is not a choice. Going blonde is a choice. Both are terrible but one is easier to undo. Slavery was a choice: for white people,” Trevor said.
West had dyed his hair blonde at the time, so we are sure he felt that one.
