Radio 702 pays tribute to late veteran broadcaster, Xolani Gwala

- Radio 702, where Xolani gained a lot of respect as host, also paid tribute to him

Xolani Gwala passed away very recently and on 1 November South Africans learned about his tragic death.

He has been an inspiration in more way than one, and Mzansi is in mourning after the loss of a great man.

Xolani's death came as a surprise as it was believed he was in remission from the colon cancer that he was diagnosed with in 2017.

Briefly.co.za reported earlier that Xolani described his battle against cancer as hell, and his fight is admired by those who knew him.

Tributes to the late broadcaster have been flooding the social media streets and Radio 702, where many of us got to know Xolani, also paid their respects to him.

The tribute, which looks at his career of more than 2 decades, stated, in part:

"A journalist, a gentleman, a fierce proponent of democracy. Xolani Gwala has been a steadfast companion and champion for South Africa, on the air and off over his 24-year career. He was irrepressible, kind and always respectful."

Xolani's death leaves behind a whole in South African hearts and his absence will be felt forever more.
