Vuyo Mhaga, political spokesperson, has confirmed on Saturday, 2 November, that Thuliswa Nkabinde-Khawe, Gauteng Social Development MEC, has suddenly passed away on Friday.
She was appointed into her role as MEC in May of this year, Briefly.co.za gathered from Jacaranda FM.
Nkabinde-Khawe passed away in Mulbarton hospital in Alberton hospital, but the cause of her unexpected death has not been revealed yet.
Premier David Makhura was saddened by the news of her death.
"I appointed MEC Nkabinde-Khawe as part of team Gauteng, to be the political head of the Social Development portfolio. MEC Nkabinde-Khawe demonstrated dedication and commitment to the people of Gauteng.
"She was passionate about the issues affecting the poor, children, women, the elderly and people living with disability as the most vulnerable section of the population."
Nkabinde-Khawe was married to the ANC Gauteng’s provincial secretary, Jacob Khawe.
The ANC is also deeply affected by Nkabinde-Khawe's death.
"It was her passion for community service that saw her taking up the cause of the downtrodden through her involvement in various formations."
