Hudson is starring opposite comedian and actor Marlon Wayans, who portrays Franklin's husband Ted White.
The biopic is titled RESPECT, after Franklin's 1967 hit song of the same name.
The singer was spotted inside an old-fashioned car on location in Manhattan’s Harlem neighbourhood.
Both Hudson and Wayans brought the sixties era back to life in their costumes.
Wayans wore a trilby hat and a brown coat, while Hudson stunned in a knee length coat, mini dress and voluminous beehive hairstyle.
She also sported huge earrings, which is a style that was very popular at the time.
The two actors appeared to be filming an extremely emotional scene, which included a kiss.
Franklin died last year at the age of 76. She succumbed to pancreatic cancer.
The legendary singer hand-picked Hudson to star as her in this biopic before her passing. Fans cannot wait to see the final product.
