The late musical legend, Hugh Masekela, is being honoured by his former band members in the 80th Birthday Edition of The Hugh Masekela Heritage Festival.
Bra Hugh passed away at the age of 78 on the 23rd of January, 2018 after a long battle with cancer.
Briefly.co.za learnt that the Hugh Masekela Band will be headlining this year's Hugh Masekela Heritage Festival in honour of their late brother, Hugh.
The festival is set to take place this weekend, 9 November, where Thandiswa and the band will be performing some of Hugh’s lesser-known tracks such as Fela Kuti's Lady, Introducing Hedzoleh Soundz, Languta and many more, to honour him as they feel these are the songs that meant a lot to him.
This will be the first The Hugh Masekela Heritage Festival that is taking place since Hugh’s passing.
Sjava, Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse, Madala Kunene, Thabang Tabane, Bombshelter Beast, Sun Xa Experiment, Luma and the BaTswana dance ensemble New Moon are the other artists who will be performing at the festival.
Bra Hugh will be there in spirit and his legacy will shine bright and strong as hundreds of people enjoy the festival in his honour.
