- Rapper West's new gospel album titled Jesus Is King debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart yesterday
- West is now with fellow rapper Eminem with a record of nine consecutive albums to debut at number one
The album amassed 196.9 million audio streams, 109 000 of which were pure album sales.
It seems West's decision to go the gospel route was the right one.
This album has done better in first week sales than his previous album Ye, which sold 85 000 album units in its first week.
In August, West's wife Kim Kardashian revealed Jesus Is King's title and track list.
Briefly.co.za reported that 27 September was the original release date.
The album was delayed several times until it was eventually released on 25 October.
West released a thirty-five minute long Jesus Is King documentary to accompany the album.
The documentary has made a million dollars in its first week in United States theatres, according to Variety.
As per West's deal with IMAX, the film is expected to debut in theatres in seventy-eight other countries on 8 November.
