- A video showing a member of the ANC throwing what appears to be money into a crowd of supporters has been shared on social media
- The video has caused upset as many people see this as the party trying to buy votes from the public
- The ANC has not responded to the video as of yet
A video was shared on social media on 5 November that shows a group of people wearing ANC shirts on a stage. In the video, one person can be seen throwing cash into the crowd that reacts with loud enthusiasm.
While this act can be taken as the leading party 'gifting' their people with some money to alleviate poverty, it can also be seen as members bribing supporters for votes.
The video was taken ahead of the provincial conference, according to a report by The South African.
Briefly.co.za gathered that ANC spokesperson, Pule Mabe, was contacted about the video but there hasn't been any official response reported yet.
Professor Bheki Mngomezulu, a political analyst, said it is not easy to distinguish whether the money was a gift or a bribe.
"Another person would argue that these people needed money and they were just given money out of love, while another one would say the timing is questionable and therefore this amounting to bribe.
"If it is an ordinary gathering, which had nothing to do with elections, other people could say you are investing because you know that in the near future there would be elections."
