Actor and activist Patrick Shai has been hospitalised after he got injured during protests gone bad in Dobsonville.
Residents were protesting electricity cuts and the actor said he was trying to mediate between the police and angry crowd.
As reported on by News24, Patrick was trying to calm the situation when he was shot and struck by rubber bullets.
The actor had X-rays done to see if he sustained any internal damage to bones or tissue.
According to Patrick, most of the bullets hit his back as he was trying to leave the violent situation.
Briefly.co.za gathered that the actor said the cops on the scene were trigger happy.
"When we say that there is no need for violence, we are also saying that to police."
SAPS' Brigadier Mathapelo Peters confirmed that police had fired rubber bullets to disperse a group of about 200 protesters.
