- Helen Zille has called for answers in the Senzo Meyiwa murder case
- The DA federal council chair wants the lead investigator to explain what the situation is
- The veteran politician demands clarity at a time when the case has been thrust into the spotlight once more
Helen Zille has demanded answers relating to Senzo Meyiwa's murder investigation.
In a social media post, the Democratic Alliance federal council chair has commented:
"There were at least four other witnesses to this crime. Why is it seemingly impossible to lay a charge? This is a simple question. Please, can the lead investigator explain."
Briefly.co.za reported that police had condemned a report claiming a high profile cover-up had been the reason behind the delay in obtaining justice.
After waiting five years for justice that never came, the Meyiwa family has approached AfriForum for help.
In a statement issued by the police in response to allegations that Col Bongani Gininda had withheld information, the authorities commented that:
“Gininda is still the lead investigator of the team which is investigating the murder of (Senzo) Meyiwa. He has never been removed or replaced as the investigator of the Senzo Meyiwa matter since he was tasked with this investigation in 2018."
Kelly Khumalo, who was present on the day of the murder, has come out in response to these allegations, saying that the blame for her lover's death was a difficult burden to bear.
