When asked in a recent interview if she'd be happy to play the role, Clarke said, "Yeah! Of course! Hell to the yeah! James Bond is one of those franchises where it's never not cool.

"You could literally make the naffest James Bond in the world and it would still be cool."

Several months prior to this, actress Lashana Lynch was rumoured to be next in line to play Bond.

Speaking about the Captain Marvel star, a Hollywood insider told The Daily Mail on Sunday, "There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says, 'Come in 007,' and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman."

"Bond, of course, is sexually attracted to the new female 007 and tries his usual seduction tricks, but is baffled when they don't work on a brilliant, young black woman who basically rolls her eyes at him and has no interest... Well, certainly not at the beginning."

The insider continued, "It's a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he's been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman."

When asked for comment on who should be the next Bond, Craig said, "I think that everybody should be considered. Also for women and for African-Americans, there should be great parts anyway, across the board."
