AmaXhosa King Mpendulo Sigcawu has died: Family calls for privacy

AmaXhosa King Mpendulo Sigcawu has passed away, according to his uncle Nkosi Sigcawu. The family has asked the public for privacy during this difficult time to allow for a statement to be compiled.

AmaXhosa King Mpendulo Sigcawu died during the early hours of Thursday morning, according to his uncle.

Speaking to DispatchLIVE, Nkosi Xhanti Sigcawu revealed that the royal had been rushed to hospital on Wednesday evening:

“I can confirm that His Majesty King Zwelonke passed on at the Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital in Mthatha at about 5.30am this morning."

Xhanti is currently travelling to the palace and has asked that the family is allowed some privacy as they meet to prepare statements:

“We are devastated about this as the family but we still have to meet and inform all the people close to the family."

The 51-year-old king has ruled since the 2005 death of his father, King Xolilizwe Sigcawu, Briefly.co.za gathered.
