A video has gone viral, showing a taxi getting swept away by floods in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday.

The SA Police Service took to Twitter to post the video, adding the minibus had four people inside.

The occupants were rescued and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, Briefly.co.za gathered.

The SAPS' post read:

"Early yesterday, PMB #SAR, #K9SAR and Msunduzi Fire Dept were called to assist after a minibus with four occupants was swept off the low-level bridge at Slangspruit River at the end of Barnsley Rd. Four people including the driver were transported by ER24 to Hospital for treatment."

South Africans slammed the taxi driver for risking the lives of the passengers by attempting to drive through the flood.

Twitter user, @Njabs_Mlungisi, commented:

"Why do we passengers allow drivers to do this to us? Why?"

Another tweep, @GmailThabiso1, added:

"Some taxi drivers have some level of stupidity. Every year a taxi driver has to take a chance on crossing a flooded road with innocent passengers' lives."

Social media user, @Sanelechiliza3, wrote:

"The taxi association must pay. There are multiple alternative routes, this was unforced and totally the driver's fault."
