Viral video of prisoners singing church hymns leaves Mzansi divided

A video of prisoners singing church hymns has gone viral on social media. In the footage, the orange jumpsuit-clad men can be seen enjoying a gospel jam session. Social media users had divided reactions, many felt that prisons should never be depicted as a fun place to be.

Twitter user Yoliswamakhasi shared the video on the social media platform and it has gone viral. Many had mixed reactions about the footage. While others were touched by the display, others felt like prisoners should not be applauded for anything. A few others were even disturbed by the fact that recording equipment was available for the prisoners. Twitter user BanziMalindi said:

"I know that some people behind bars have done terrible things and I hope to not minimize anyone’s pain. These people are human still and they still have God if they choose to praise"

"According to me, I think prison should be like Hell where no one wants to go...so this way, it seems like prison is a fun place so no wonder other people are not scared of it and continue to do wrong things. When they have their fun, it should not be shown to the public"
