On Monday, Yusuf Abramjee shared a horrifying video on Twitter which shows a tourist falling victim to the crime in South African.
The 69-year-old UK man reportedly stopped at the Falstaff Boutique Hotel after landing at OR Tambo when a group of thugs ambushed him.
According to The South African, the elderly tourist was here on holiday when tragedy struck.
Abramjee captioned the video:
"Another following from @ortambo_int - Victim (69) arrived from the UK. He was robbed of his luggage at Falstaff Boutique Hotel, Longdon Ave, Morningside JHB."
Briefly.co.za gathered the video quickly went viral on Mzansi social media, reaching over 24 700 views in just hours.
South Africans were left outraged over the footage, dubbing it a serious hit to tourism in Mzansi.
Twitter user, @PressPlaySA, commented:
"And we want to attract international tourists and investors, with this level of crime in the country?"
Nevin Sandra, who goes by the Twitter handle @nevin_sandra, added:
"Sad indeed. We need tourism. We also need our tourists to be safe and to feel safe in our country. Are SAPS doing an analysis of all the incidents to see what the common factors are? Criminals are getting information from common sources. The data should include cellphones used."
