- Kelly Clarkson laughed off critics of the remake she recorded to the Christmas classic Baby, It's Cold Outside'
- She recorded the song with fellow singer John Legend
- The talk show host and John Legend's wife, model Chrissy Teigen, had a good chuckle about the debacle on Clarkson's talk show on Tuesday
Talk show host and singer, Kelly Clarkson, responded to the backlash that she received for changing the lyrics to the song Baby, It's Cold Outside.
Clarkson and Legend updated the lyrics in the song to sound more #MeToo-friendly.
She laughed off the controversy when John Legend's wife, Chrissy Teigen, stopped by her show on Tuesday.
During her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, Clarkson called the criticism "so weird".
The 37-year-old jokingly asked Teigen, "Did you not hear that John (Legend) and I ruined Christmas recently? I was like, 'How did I mess that up?'"
Sharon Osbourne was particularly critical of the new version of the song. She called it "ridiculous".
The song was written by Frank Loesser in 1944.
American actor, singer and comedian Dean Martin wasn't the first to sing it, he helped to further popularise the song when he sang it in 1959.
His daughter, Deana Martin, said the new version was "absolutely absurd".
She said, "I think what he's (Legend's) done is, he's stealing the thunder from Frank Loesser's song and from my dad."
"He should write his own song if he doesn't like this one, but don't change the lyrics. It's a classic, perfect song,"
Clarkson explained that she and Legend did not necessarily dislike the original version.
They just wanted to give those music-lovers who do find some of it's lyrics offensive another option to enjoy.
