- The former first lady of the US cautioned women against getting too comfy when it came to choosing spouses
- She encouraged them to find worthy husbands who are willing to pull their weight
- To the mother of two, women need men who are accountable and not weak
Former First Lady of the US Michelle Obama has advised women to get married to men who are their equals.
During a Saturday, November 16, table talk, the cheerful lady made sure she even gave her audience tips on how to maintain a healthy marriage.
Briefly.co.za learnt that in a video shared by Essence.com, the former first lady was heard saying marriage is a choice people make every day.
"You do not do it because it is easy. You do it because you believe in it. You believe in the other person,” the mother of two said.
The 55-year-old who has been married for 27 years noted that women should avoid falling for random people who are not up to the task.
To her, it is key for a woman to fall in love with and settle for a partner who can weather storms with her.
“My husband is my teammate. If we are going to win this game together, he has to be strong and he has to be OK with me being strong. I do not want a weak player on my team, nor does he,” she said.
Michelle added that it is dangerous to be with a man who wants the easy way out and does not value being pushed towards greatness.
The outspoken beauty added that it is paramount for women to be with men who know the importance of accountability.
“Be cautious of the man or woman who wants just the easy person. The person who is not going to force them to grow, who is not going to expect them to change, who is not going to hold them accountable. You would not pick someone off the bench who is going to show up weak. You want to pick somebody who is going to carry you through. Those are the things that get you over the hard times,” the mother of two said.
Michelle and former US president Barack Obama have always proved that marriage works.
Each year during birthdays and wedding anniversaries, the couple comes up with the most creative ways to dedicate love messages to each other.
The two are never afraid to flaunt their love or articulate just how much they adore each other.
