- Former US First Lady Michelle Obama has made it onto the Grammy nominations list
- She will be competing for Audio Book of the Year for her best-selling memoirs, Becoming
- The Grammy Awards ceremony will take place on 27 January next year
Michelle Obama is one of the beloved candidates nominated for a Grammy Award. It was revealed on Wednesday that the former US First Lady is up for a Grammy for the audio book of her memoirs, Becoming.
If Obama wins, it will be the third Grammy win for her household. Her husband, former US president Barack Obama, has won two for audio book recordings of his own.
He won for Dreams of My Father in 2006 and The Audacity of Hope in 2008.
Obama had a funny story to tell regarding her first Grammy attendance alongside her husband back in 2006.
She told the story to Gail King on King's talk show earlier this year.
Obama said after she told her mom she'd been to the Grammys, the elderly lady had asked, "Did you see any real stars?" Obama said she'd confidently replied, "Mom, I am a real star."
Becoming was released in late 2018 and had sold more than 10 million copies by March 2019.
Briefly.co.za reported that our very own Trevor Noah has also been nominated for a Grammy this year for best comedy performance.
