The Economic Freedom Fighters have released a statement confirming the nomination of Musa Novela as their candidate for mayorship.
The party insists that they are now poised to assume the responsibilities that come with the position at the helm of the nation's economic hub.
Briefly.co.za reported that leader Julius Malema had insisted no coalitions would be made in the region unless the EFF came out on top.
Novela leads the party's caucus in the city and has a higher certificate in local governance as well as a chemistry diploma.
Much like the Democratic Alliance, the EFF will now rely on support from other parties including the ANC in order to select a mayor for the metro.
The hung council has thus far been run by a coalition between the DA, EFF, COPE, IFP ACDP, and the FF+.
Mashaba commented recently that it had been 'brutal' to lead the multi-headed beast, but following his resignation, the EFF had commended his humility and respect while he served in office.
While analysts are eager to predict how the standoff for the highly coveted region will go down, Mzansi will just have to wait and see.
Interim Democratic Alliance leader John Steenhuisen has established a task team to attempt negotiations with the EFF in Jozi, but their leader seems adamant that its a matter of winner takes all.
