Mzansi cab drivers have resorted to extreme methods to avoid getting hijacked. A video was shared on social media showing a Port Elizabeth cab with a specially customized car that shields the driver from contact with the passengers. While some social media users were amused, others were saddened by the lengths people have to go through to protect themselves.

The video was shared by Twitter user ViweXO with the caption:

"Bruh Taxify / Uber drivers in PE are sick and tired of being hijacked"

The video went viral with over 17 000 views. In the footage, the driver can be seen sitting in a make-shift metal container that blocks him from physical contact with passengers. Another Twitter user shared a similar experience with the same driver. In that video, the driver can be heard explaining that hijackings will only get worse over the festive season and he was protecting himself.

Social media users were split in their reactions. Some were amused while others felt sad about the state of crime in the country.
